PHYSICAL MEDICINE AND REHABILITATION

Physical medicine and rehabilitation is a specialty with a broad focus on restoring and improving function. Because so many diseases affect an individual body's functionality and quality of life, this specialty, and our surgeons, have a very extensive skill set.

Physiatrists are doctors who specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation, and they are specially trained to treat and manage the following conditions:

  • Non-operative sports injuries and other musculoskeletal injuries, including evaluation and prescription for appropriate rehabilitative therapies
  • Arthritis diagnosis, treatment, and management
  • Evaluation and prescription for prosthetic limbs, orthotic braces, or other assistive devices like wheelchairs
  • Treatment of pain syndromes using both medication and interventional (targeted injection) procedures
  • Movement disorders (spasticity)
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Work injuries and disability evaluations
  • Spasticity management using medicine, botox injections, and baclofen pump management
  • Electrodiagnostic evaluation of nerve and muscle disease
  • Physical manipulations to relieve musculoskeletal pain or lost function
