Meet our team and learn about foot & ankle treatments.
The foot and ankle involve complex anatomy with 26 bones, 30+ joints, and multiple ligaments and tendons. It is prone to injury, both acute and chronic. The foot and ankle are specifically designed to allow performance in shock absorption and allowing us to propel when we walk and run. The structures of the foot and ankle also are under profound stress just by the repetitive nature of weight-bearing, walking, running, and jumping.
Acute and chronic injuries are sometimes difficult to tolerate because they limit our ability to move around. Simple remedies for most injuries are effective. These include rest, ice, anti-inflammatories and activity modification. When these are not effective in relieving the symptoms often evaluation with an orthopedic specialist may be beneficial. Nonsurgical options are often affective in relieving symptoms. This may include physical therapy, injections, prescription medications, orthotics, or bracing. In some cases surgical treatment may be needed for the optimal outcome but only if nonsurgical treatment has not helped.
