What to Expect with Advanced Orthopedics Involving the Hip and Knee

The hip and knee are two of the largest joints in the human body, enabling us to do everyday things such as walking, running, and navigating stairs. When either of those joints are injured or otherwise compromised, it can drastically reduce a person’s ability to be self-sufficient, as well as their quality of life. There is also the issue of pain that needs to be factored in.

As an experienced orthopedic doctor, Dr. Young has extensive knowledge of both the hip and knee joints and has worked with a wide variety of patients with differing levels of injury and pain. Considering that both the hip and knee are a complex series of joints, determining the exact cause of injury and developing a treatment plan are critical steps in Dr. Young’s process.

Patients who are experiencing pain, stiffness, or discomfort are examined and may need to undergo X-rays or an MRI. In most cases, hip and/or knee pain can be resolved through non-surgical methods such as rest, physical therapy, medication, or injections. In other cases, the condition is severe enough that surgery is required to permanently resolve the symptoms of pain and discomfort.

In the event surgery is required, Dr. Young will meet with you to discuss your surgical options. As an orthopedic surgeon, his goal is to provide patients with a solution that is as minimally invasive as possible. Minimally invasive and arthroscopic surgeries are usually the ideal option because they utilize small incisions and have a much faster recovery time. However, should a more aggressive form of surgery be required, Dr. Young is one of the most skilled orthopedic surgeons in the Wichita area.

Additionally, once a patient is successfully out of surgery, Dr. Young will personally walk the patient through their recovery plan in detail. Patients who undergo arthroscopic surgery or minimally invasive surgery are generally back on their feet after a short recovery period. Often, physical therapy will help during the recovery period. Fortunately, Mid-America Orthopedics has a team of the best physical therapists in the Wichita area.
